Safe House to host Taco Tuesday

The Safe House for Women will hold a lunch fundraiser, called Taco Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Church of the Nazarene, 2601 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau. Lunch will include three hard or soft tacos, chips and salsa, dessert and a drink for $8. Dine-in and carryout are available, as well as delivery to Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City. Delivery orders may be placed by calling 573-335-7745 or emailing receptionist@semosafehouse.org. Cash and checks will be accepted. The Safe House for Women provides comprehensive services to adults and children who have experienced domestic violence.

Kelly High School registration set

Student registration for Kelly High School in benton will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Jackson to show movie in park

Jackson Parks and Recreation will host a free screening of the movie "Big Hero Six" at 8 p.m. Friday in the City Park Rock Garden. More information is available by calling 573-204-8848.

Scott City church to host fall dinner

St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City will host a fall dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the St. Joseph Parish Center. The buffet dinner will include kettle beef, chicken and dumplings, chicken and dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, dessert, tea and coffee. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages six through 12. Carryout meals will be available. The Council of Catholic Women will be selling crafts, breads and sweets. Cooking class to cover grains

HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau will host a cooking class from 6 to 7:15 p.m. The class will focus on "ancient grains," which are growing in popularity because of their nutrition content and lack of processing. Raina Childers, HealthPoint Nutritional Services coordinator, will cook. Cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for nonmembers. Registration is available at SEhealth.org/Events and 573-986-4440.

Youth soccer league announced

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer a fall youth soccer league during September and October for children age 4 through eighth grade. Kindergarten through eighth grade teams will have an eight-game schedule, and the younger children will play five games. Registration ends Friday; cost is $50 for the older children and $35 for the younger ones. Registrations are accepted at the Arena Building and the Osage Centre and online at cityofcape.org/soccer. Dutchman's Dash races scheduled Aug. 15

The Dutchman's Dash, consisting of a 5K run and a duathlon -- 14-mile bicycle road ride followed by a five-mile trail -- will be held at 7 a.m. Aug. 15 at the VFW, 217 S. Frisco St. in Chaffee. The goal is to raise money and awareness for the Walk to End Altzheimer's. Participants will receive complimentary shirt, beverage and bratwurst. More information and registration are available at dutchmansdash.com. The Cape Girardeau Walk to End Alzheimer's will be Sept. 19.

Tobacco cessation classes scheduled

Two classes will be held Aug. 19 for those interested in quitting tobacco use -- from 10 to 11 a.m. at HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at HealthPoint in Jackson. Auxiliary to host 'bling' sale

The SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary will host a boutique sale from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 in the Harrison Room at SoutheastHEALTH. Merchandise will include rhinestone-decorated and monogrammed T-shirts, scarves, jewelry, purses, wallets and phone cases, as well as fashion items for St. Louis Cardinal and other sports fans. Purchases may be made by cash and credit/debit cards. Proceeds will benefit Southeast Hospital.
