Hobbs Chapel fall bazaar to be held Saturday

Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church will hold a fall bazaar from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday in the activity building, 3024 State Highway 177. Crafts, collectibles and books, homemade pies, bread, cakes, jellies are among items to be sold. Tailgaters and vendors are welcome. Call Teresia at 335-6097 to register for a space. Teen Challenge will be on site with its wood products, and the Safe House for Women will be on site with cookbooks and candles. There will be a snack bar serving soup, chili and sandwiches.

Safe Assured ID offered at HealthPoint

HealthPoint in Cape and Jackson will hold a Safe Assured ID program Sept. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Cape Girardeau and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Jackson. Safe Assured ID collects and records important information that parents and law enforcement need in case a child is lost or missing. In about six minutes, important information about the child is recorded and placed on a privacy-protected mini-CD, which only the family keeps. The CD offers a single repository of important information, including electronically imaged fingerprints, a digital photograph and streaming video. This event is free for children of all ages and is open to the public. The number of children thatcan be processed is limited, so early arrival is advised. Neck surgery subject of free program

People with chronic neck pain who have suffered from trauma involving the neck and those with spinal conditions that have resulted over time require expert evaluation before a treatment regimen should begin. Neurosurgeon Dr. Scott R. Gibbs will present a free program when surgery to help correct these conditions should be considered at 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau. Cancer support group meets Sept. 25

The Southeast Journeys cancer support group covers educational topics from the American Cancer Society's "I Can Cope" series. The meeting, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Southeast Cancer Center, includes a question-and-answer session and also offers care, support and encouragement for those battling cancer and their families/caregivers. Mo. Building Block program coming to Riverside

Riverside Regional Library is participating in the Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award program. This program encourages adults to read aloud to children using an annual list of recent, high-quality picture books. Parents and other caregivers can pick up the list of books at the library. Children can vote for their favorite book from the list if they have had five or more of the books read aloud to them. The votes will be counted along with others from throughout Missouri, and the winner will be announced in February. A special award will be presented to the author and the illustrator of the winning book by the Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award committee. Look for the list and ballots with the Missouri Building Block Picture Book Display from September to Dec. 15 in your local branches of Riverside Regional Library in Jackson, Perryville, Mo., Altenburg, Mo., Scott City, Oran, Mo., and Benton, Mo.

Poplar Bluff class of '62 to celebrate 50th

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Members of the Poplar Bluff High School graduating class of 1962 will celebrate their 50th reunion Oct. 5 and 6, the same weekend as the high school's football homecoming game. On Oct. 5, there will be an informal gathering at the home of a classmate from 5:30 to 10 p.m. There is no charge for this event. On Oct. 6, there will be a class dinner at Colton's Restaurant Annex, 2114 N. Westwood Blvd. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. at the restaurant, with a class picture scheduled for 6 and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost for the Saturday dinner is $25 per person; checks should be made payable to PBHS Class of '62.
