Missouri hunter education courses announced
The Missouri Department of Conservation will conduct two hunter education courses at the Cape Girardeau Nature Center before the fall firearms season. Students younger than 16 are required to bring proof of age. The following courses are scheduled for the Cape Girardeau area: Aug. 14 to 15 and Sept. 11 to 12. To register or find out more about the hunter education program, call the Missouri Department of Conservation Southeast Regional Office at 573-290-5730.
Computer classes available at local church
The Abbey Road computer lab is accepting registrations for its regular session of free classes that begin Aug. 24. Sessions cover basic computer skills, e-mail, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Call 335-3422 or e-mail capearcc@charterinternet.com to register. The computer lab is a ministry of Abbey Road Christian Church, 2411 Abbey Road in Cape Girardeau.
Ciara and Staples hold school supply drive
Ciara encourages Cape Girardeau teens to make a difference this summer by collecting school supplies and dropping them off at the nearest Staples store from now through Sept. 19. In addition, Staples customers can get involved by donating $1 at any Staples store with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Girardeau, an educational and not-for-profit organization that serves disadvantaged youths. The local Staples store is at 294 Siemers Drive. Teens who want to get involved can go to www.DoSomething101.org.
Angel Food Ministries taking orders, payments
The Church of Jesus Christ is a host site for the Angel Food Ministries, a program where individuals can purchase food boxes, or speacial packages at reduced price. Orders and payments are being taken now for August. The program is open to everyone. A new menu is available. Payment must be made by 6 p.m. Aug. 17. You can also order online at www.angelfoodministries.com. The church is on County Road 316, between Jackson and Gordonville off Highway 25.
