The 45th annual Perkins Fire Department fish and chicken dinner will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the firehouse.
Music will be provided by Country Junction karaoke and Sound System, and an auction is will take place at 5 p.m.
Church offering school supplies
Connection Point Church is offering free school supplies to area students in need. The selection will include backpacks and supplies based on lists provided by area elementary schools.

Adult beach party at Cape Splash
An adults-only swim party will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Cape Splash. Lines for the lazy river and slides should be at a minimum, and music, free food and prizes will be part of the event, which is for those 18 years old and older.
Cost is $5 per person, and concessions will be available.

Registration open for adult soccer league
Registration is open for the fall soccer league sponsored by Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreations.
League games, tentatively scheduled to begin on Sept. 14, will take place Sundays and Mondays. Players ages 20 and older are encouraged to sign up, and registration ends July 31. Cost is $220 per team.

Volleyball league forming
Saturday is the deadline for registration for an adult co-ed, 6-on-6 sand and indoor volleyball league, hosted by the City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.
Play starts Aug. 11. Ten weeks of games will be played on both indoor and outdoor volleyball courts. Games will be played on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
Registration is $200 per team.
Team managers must attend a meeting at 6 p.m. July 30 at the Osage Centre.

'Grease' is theme of fundraiser
The Library bar and restaurant, 10 S. Spanish St., will host a costume party with the theme of "Grease" -- the Broadway musical and motion picture -- at 9 p.m. Saturday. A portion of the proceeds will be used to cover expenses of the Vintage NOW Fashion Show, a fund-raiser for Safe House for Women.
The fifth annual Vintage NOW Fashion Show -- with a theme of The Fabulous Fifties -- will be Oct. 17 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau.
Saturday's party is not sponsored by Safe House, and there is no cover charge.
Hoops For Life run scheduled
The fifth annual Hoops for Life run will be at 8 a.m. Saturday. The 5K run/walk and 1.6-mile power walk will take place in Kiwanis Park in Cape Girardeau.
Cost is $21 and $30, with proceeds supporting the pediatric brain tumor research program at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University in California.
The race is held in memory of Sahara "Hoops" Aldridge, daughter of Shannon and Amy Aldridge, who, at age 13, died as a result of a malignant brain tumor. Last year, proceeds of $25,000 were donated to the hospital, and, to date, nearly $100,000 has been raised for the program.
Meals With Friends menu
This week's menu for the Salvation Army's free Meals With Friends, at noon daily, includes fruit each day, with the main course as follows: Monday, chili; Tuesday, chicken and dressing; Wednesday, ham and beans; Thursday, beef vegetable soup; and Friday, chicken and dumplings.

Concert scheduled at conservation center
The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host a free concert, Fiddles and Forest, at 7 p.m. Friday.
Shortleaf Band will perform a mix of traditional Celtic jigs and Ozark bluegrass, reflecting the Scots-Irish migration from the lowlands of Scotland to Missouri Ozark country.
