St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson will host its vacation Bible school, called "The Amazing Desert Journey," July 8 through 11. On July 8, registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be an ice cream social for everyone at 7:30 p.m. Activities July 9 and 10 will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with quick meals served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. July 11's activities will start at 6:30 p.m. at Jackson City Park shelter No. 2. They will continue at the Jackson City Pool from 8 to 9:30 p.m. For more information or to register, call 243-2236.
St. Lawrence Parish in New Hamburg, Mo., will hold its annual picnic from 5 to 11:30 p.m. July 13 and from 3 to 11:30 p.m. July 14. There will be a smorgasbord dinner with fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, roast beef and gravy with all the trimmings from 4 to 7 p.m. July 14 at the St. Lawrence Parish Center. Admission for adults is $8, children 6 to 12 $4 and children 5 and younger are free. A washers tournament will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 13. Events on July 14 include a horseshoe tournament at 1 p.m., a turtle race (bring your own box turtle) at 6 p.m. and a children's tractor pull at 7 p.m.
The Summer Institute on Autism Spectrum Disorders will take place Aug. 10 at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff, Mo. This one-day conference will provide information and strategies for parents and professionals who are involved with children and adults with autism spectrum disorders. Check in begins at 8 a.m. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and will end at 3:15 p.m. Early-bird registration is $20 for parents/guardians and $60 for professionals will be accepted through July 13.
