Session to address retirement, estate planning

Ford and Sons Funeral Home, the law firm of Lichtenegger, Weiss and Fetterhoff and Americare Assisted Living will host a free lunch and information session at noon Tuesday at Delmonicos Restaurant in Jackson. Speakers will address issues surrounding retirement living options; legal tools to assist with estate planning including powers of attorney, wills, trusts and health-care directives; and advance-funeral planning. Seating is limited to 30 people. Registration is required by noon Monday by calling 573-225-7576.

Frohna church to host supper

Concordia Lutheran Church, 10172 Route C in Frohna, Missouri, will host a supper in the gymnasium of United in Christ Lutheran School, adjacent to the church, from 4 to 7 p.m. today. The menu will include jack salmon, fried chicken, potato salad, corn, green beans, slaw and homemade desserts. The cost is $9.50 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 through 12. Carryouts will be available, and there will be a country store with baked goods, handicrafts, plants and more.

LFCS schedules parenting classes

Lutheran Family and Children's Services will offer free parenting classes for five weeks, beginning Tuesday. The classes, held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, will be held at the LFCS offices, 3178 Blattner Drive in Cape Girardeau. Seating is limited, and registration is required. Call 573-334-5866 to register.

River boats plan stops in Cape

Several boats traveling the Mississippi River will be docking at Cape Girardeau throughout the summer and fall, according to a notice from the city. Times and dates are subject to change. American Queen plans to be in Cape July 2, 6 and 17 and Oct. 14. Queen of the Mississippi plans to dock July 15, 19 and 30 and Sept. 14 and 23. American Eagle is scheduled to stop Aug. 18.

Baby-sitting classes offered

Saint Francis Medical Center will offer the Safe Sitter program designed by Dr. Patricia Keener, a pediatrition, to prepare preteens to care for younger children. The program includes CPR, first aid, safety, behavior management, online safety and business management. The course, designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 13, costs $40 ($35 for children of Saint Francis employees). Price includes lunch and official infant and child CPR certification. It will be offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 2, July 17, July 28, Aug. 4, Nov. 27 and Dec. 29. More information is available by calling 573-331-5107.

Book fair at Southeast July 30

The SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary will host a book fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 30 in the Harrison Room. The sale will feature best-sellers, children's books, cookbooks, educational materials and electronics. There will be a drawing for St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia. Proceeds will benefit Southeast.

Weight management program offered

SoutheastHEALTH is introducing a program, Starting Point, at HealthPoint Fitness to help in weight control. Starting Point is a medically supervised, weight-management program that emphasizes nutrition and fitness.

A free informational session on the program will be at 7 p.m. July 16, at 7 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. More information is available by calling 573-986-4440.

Treats offered at Cape concert

SoutheastHEALTH will offers free desserts at the July 22 performance of the Cape Girardeau Muny Band at the Capaha Park Band Shell. The concert will feature jazz and swing music.

Camp set for children with diabetes

Southeast Camp DAY Break, for children with diabetes, will take place July 30 and 31 at HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson. The camp, for children ages 6 to 13, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Registration deadline is July 6. DAY stands for Diabets And Youth, and the camp is a program of the Kohl's Youth Diabetes Care Network.
