Vietnam memorial wall coming to Perryville

A half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall that sits on The Mall in Washington, D.C., will be in Perryville, Missouri, June 17 through June 22. Called The Wall That Heals, the traveling Vietnam veterans memorial and museum will be situated at the Perryville Soccer Complex just off the Highway 51 Bypass between St. Joseph Street and Highway 61.

The exhibit will be open and accessible 24 hours each day.

The wall will be escorted June 17 from Arkansas to Perryville by veterans on motorcycles. An opening ceremony will be at 9 a.m. June 18; area students will be especially welcomed June 19. A candlelight vigil will take place at sunset on June 20, with visits from residents of retirement homes. The hours from sunrise to 10:30 a.m. June 21 are reserved for Vietnam veterans and their families and guests; at noon June 21 a ceremony paying tribute to local Vietnam veterans will take place. A sunrise service will be held June 22.

Attic sale at Hobbs Chapel

Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church, 3024 State Highway 177 in Cape Girardeau, will host an attic sale from 7 to 11 a.m. June 7.

Along with miscellaneous items, the sale inventory includes clothes, dishes and books. Sweets and baked items also will be available for sale.

Individual spaces are available outdoors for $5 and indoors for $10.

Car show in Oran

The 19th annual Oran Car Show will be June 7 at the Tilles Memorial City Park on Greer Street in Oran.

Check-in is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and trophies will be awarded at 4 p.m. for three places in 52 categories. The day will include several contests, races and concessions. Entry fee is $15, and spectator admission is free.

Crader family reunion scheduled June 7

The Crader family reunion will be June 7 at The Bridge, annex of 1st Baptist Church, 326 S. High St. in Jackson. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. with Crader Cemetery board meeting at 11 a.m., whole group meeting at 11:30 and lunch at noon. Participants are asked to bring food to share and soft drinks.

An auction of handcrafted items will benefit the 154-year-old Crader Cemetery on Bollinger County Road 458 for its upkeep and maintenance.

Relay for Life set June 14 in Cape

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be held noon to midnight June 14 at the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. The event is intended to show support for local cancer patients and survivors.

The local organization is using the theme Paint the Town Purple, and encouraging people to decorate homes and businesses with purple, the American Cancer Society's official color representing all types of cancer. Purple ribbons adorn light posts along Broadway, and the society is selling ribbons for mailboxes and doors at its office, 106 Farrar Drive, Suite 104; a $5 donation is requested.

Vehicle display to raise money for playhouse

A collection of work vehicles will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 14 at the old Steve and Barry's parking lot at Westpark Mall in Cape Girardeau as part of a fundraiser for Discovery Playhouse. Funds will help the playhouse build out a second level.

Called Wheeled Wonders Fun Fest, the event will allow children to explore the vehicles. Included in the collection will be an ambulance, crane truck, Plaza Tire boom truck, helicopter, Kona Ice truck, KGMO remote vehicle, Ma and Pa express train, a Disney Mater tow truck, a Model T automobile and the ABC Supply delivery truck.
