Immanuel Lutheran to host chicken dinner

Immanuel Lutheran Church of Altenburg will host a family-style fried chicken meal at 3 p.m. today in the parish hall, 8234 Main St. in Altenburg, Missouri. Tickets for the meal cost $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and is free for children 5 and younger. A country store will be available.

ReStore looking for donations

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 2365 Rust Ave. in Cape Girardeau, is looking for donations. Donations can include all gently used items, except for mattresses and clothes. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If donations cannot be brought in, the store will pick them up. Call (573) 651-9080 for more information. Cape Girardeau library book club begins

"Between the Stacks: A Book Discussion Group" will meet for the first time at 2 p.m. tomorrow, April 4, at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark St. in Cape Girardeau. The group will meet every first Monday of the month from 2 to 3 p.m. The club will use the first meeting to discuss which books to read in the coming months.

Simply Fitness to host seminar

Simply Fitness will host a fitness and nutrition seminar from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at 2432 E. Main St. in Jackson. There will be an informational meeting open to members and nonmembers, a tour of the facility, staff introductions, a chance to try out the equipment and nutritional advisement. Millennial book club started

"A Novel Group: A 20- & 30-Somethings Book Club" will have its first meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark St. in Cape Girardeau. The club is tailored to, but not limited to, readers of the millennial generation looking to explore books and popular culture. The group will meet every first Tuesday of the month from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The club will use the first meeting to discuss which books to read in the coming months.

KRCU Membership Breakfast set

The KRCU Membership Breakfast will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Southeast Missouri State University's Aleen Vogel Wehking Alumni Center, 926 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. NPR Arts Desk Reporter Neda Ulaby will be the keynote speaker for the event. The breakfast will kick off KRCU's spring pledge drive and is free and open to the public.

Medicare Boot Camps scheduled

Aging Matters will host Medicare Boot Camps from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Cottages at Capetown, 2857 Cape LaCroix Road in Cape Girardeau; from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Bollinger County University of Missouri Extension Office, 302 Union St. in Marble Hill, Missouri; and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at Saint Francis Medical Center's Fitness Plus, 150 S. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau. During the free boot camps, the Medicare outreach consultants will help attendees better understand Medicare eligibility and enrollment, Medicare A, B, C and D, Medigap supplement choices, benefits and other related issues.

Retirement seminar available

"Don't Worry, Retire Happy," a guide to straightforward retirement planning, will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Jackson Civic Center, 381 E. Deerwood in Jackson. Keynote speaker Tom Hegna will help attendees learn how to create a trouble-free strategy for retirement with a solid foundation. The event is free, and dinner and refreshments will be provided. Jackson library to hold book sale

Riverside Regional Library will host a spring book sale from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9, at the library, 1997 E. Jackson Blvd. in Jackson. Friends of the Library will be able to attend a preview sale from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7. Attendees can become Friends of the Library for $5 at the door. Rummage sale planned

The Southeast District Mission Team will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Maple United Methodist Church, 2442 Jean Ann Drive in Cape Girardeau.

Master gardener plant sale to be held

The Cape Girardeau County master gardener plant sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the 4H Building in Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Dive in Cape Girardeau. Garden art and flower and vegetable plants will be for sale. There will be a potting table available for planter and basket creations, and free demonstrations will be given.

Spring pet portraits available

Safe House to host trivia night

The Safe House for Women will host its sixth annual trivia night at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in the lower level of the Knights of Columbus Hall, 28745 U.S. Highway 61 in Jackson. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and trivia will begin at 7 p.m. Dexter Bar-B-Q and a cash bar will be available. Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks, but discouraged from bringing alcohol.

Walk for Women scheduled

The ninth annual Walk for Women will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Houck Field House, 920 Broadway in Cape Girardeau.
