Good Friday walk planned
The Way of the Cross Good Friday walk will begin at noon April 18. Cross walks, which usually involve the offering of a prayer and meditation at various locations, are considered a way Christians of all denominations commemorate Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Organized by Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance, the walk will begin at noon at the Common Pleas Courthouse gazebo on Lorimier Street.
This is the 14th year Cape churches have joined together for the walk. It was begun in 2001 by the Downtown Council of Churches in Cape Girardeau.
From the gazebo, the walk will progress west on Broadway to Pacific Street and then head east on Independence Street, returning to the Common Pleas courtyard. There will be 14 stops for scripture reading, prayer and singing. Participants are welcome to take a turn in carrying the full-size cross.
The gathering will be moved to Old St. Vincent's Church on Spanish Street in the event of inclement weather.
