Registration open for Cape youth track club

Registrations are open for youth track club for children ages 6 through 14. The club is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department. The season runs from March 26 through May 11 and practices are 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Cape Girardeau Central Junior High track. Registration cost is $50 for one child with a $5 discount for additional children and includes a minimum of four home meets, three away meets and a T-shirt. Salvation Army to hold disaster services training

The Salvation Army is offering free emergency disaster services volunteer training from 6 to 8 p.m. March 1 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 2. Fireside Chat set for Friday

The Scott City Historic Preservation Commission and Historical Society will hold a Fireside Chat at 1 p.m. Friday at the Scott City Nutrition Center. Residents are asked to bring their memories, photographs, documents and more of Scott City, Ilmo, Ancell, Fornfelt and the area to be preserved for future generations. Heartland Writers Guild to host workshop

The Heartland Writers Guild will host a workshop on how to make writing more interesting at 2 p.m. today at the Steck House next to First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. Carol Fisher of Kennett will lead the workshop. Fisher is a published author and will be the guest editor for a coming issue of the Missouri Folklore Journal. Participants are asked to bring three samples of writing.

Finger painting class to be held March 7

Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a finger painting class for children ages 3 to 5 from 10 to 11 a.m. March 7 at the 4-H Exhibit Hall in Arena Park. Children will practice motor skills, socialize with other children and learn about colors. Cost is $8 for residents and $9 for nonresidents. Register by March 1 by calling 339-6340. A Taste of Chocolate' to be held next weekend

The six Southeast Missouri wineries that make up Missouri's newest wine trail – Mississippi River Hills Wine Trail – will host a two-day event, "A Taste of Chocolate" Saturday and Feb 24. Each of the six wineries will offer a fine wine paired with a chocolate treat. Event tickets are available at each of the wineries. A ticket purchased in advance is $20, and $25 if purchased the days of the event; a ticket for a designated driver is $15. The ticket price includes tax and a souvenir wine glass, while supplies last. Wineries on the trail include The Barrens Winery in Perryville, Mo., Hemman Winery in Brazeau, Mo., Tower Rock Vineyard and Winery in Altenburg, Mo., Rothbrick Winery in Jackson, Hunter Valley Winery in Cape Girardeau and Apple Creek Winery in Friedheim. Participants may start the trail event at any of the six wineries, and those who have their ticket stamped at all six wineries during the two days are entered to win prizes, including horse-back riding, a stay for two at a modern country cabin, a lavish gift basket and more.
