Buchanan, Daschle to speak at Show Me Center

Political analyst Patrick Buchanan and former U.S. representative and senator Tom Daschle will be the guest speakers of the "View of the Current Events Facing the Nation" debate at 7:30 p.m. at the Show Me Center. Buchanan is a leading political analyst, commentator and former director of communications for the Reagan White House. Daschle was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1978 and elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986. He became the first co-chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. This event is free for Southeast Missouri State University students, faculty and staff with valid university ID and $10 for general public admission.

Monday night book club to meet at Cape Public Library

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will have its Monday night book club from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. The group will be discussing "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larrson. There is no registration required, and the discussion is free and open to adult readers. The event will be in the Penzel Conference Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

Building Strong Families program to begin in October

A University of Missouri Extensive Service program titled "Building Strong Families" will begin at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Cape Area Family Resource Center. Building Strong Families is a five-week program to help area parents, grandparents and guardians address a variety of family issues. There is no cost to participate, but registration is needed in order to provide adequate food and supplies. Multi County Women's Conference planned

The Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, Mo., will be hosting the seventh annual Multi County Women's Conference from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22. The objective of this conference is to facilitate public awareness of the organizations and services involved and concerned with women's health residing in Scott, Stoddard, Mississippi, New Madrid and surrounding counties. Admission to this conference is free and includes lunch. Participants must register by Sept. 30. For more information, call 573-545-3516.

Two church groups to serve sausage supper

The Trinity LLL Men's club and the Trinity Ladies Aid will be hosting a whole-hog sausage supper at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Trinity Lutheran Parish hall in Shawneetown. Cost is $7.50 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger.
