St. James AME welcomed new pastor, the Rev. Rodney Moody, on Oct. 9. Moody, who has a wife and son, lives in St. Louis and previously led a church in Kennett, Mo. St. James is at 516 North St. in Cape Girardeau.
The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department along with Mobil, Pioneer Market & Pick 'Ur Own and Southeast Missouri Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition are offering the inaugural Halloween Hoopla at the Shawnee Park Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28. The costume contest will start at 7:30 p.m. Entry into the costume contest is only $1, and prizes will be awarded. All other activities including pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating and trick-or-treat bag decorating will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets for the activities will be 50 cents each. All Halloween Hoopla activity tickets will be purchased at the door. All children 12 and younger are invited. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department office at 339-6340.
CASA of Southeast Missouri will begin a new training class for volunteers in Cape Girardeau from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 29. Court Appointed Special Advocates are private citizens who are trained to work with the system to make sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the safe embrace of a loving family.
