SoutheastHEALTH will host a free seminar, "Learning about Essential Tremor," from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Southeast Hospital's Harrison Room. Movement-disorders neurologist Dr. Robert Gardner Jr. of Neurological Associates of Cape Girardeau and physician assistant Patrick Hammond of Regional Brain and Spine will speak at the seminar, which will focus on the diagnosis process, treatment options and research concerning essential tremor. Bowling For Freedom, a fundraiser to help children who have been the victims of slavery and trafficking, will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at West Park Lanes in Cape Girardeau. The cost of $10 per person includes shoes, two games of bowling and a ticket for a raffle to be held later. Five or six people will be allowed per team. Concession will also be available, and there will be a prize for the winning team. The event is sponsored by the Free The Slaves chapter of Southeast Missouri State University, and money raised will be sent to aid slavery prevention efforts in Ghana, West Africa. The fall festival and dinner at St. Joseph Parish of Apple Creek in Perryville, Mo., will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3. The Carbondale community farmers market will be in operation at the Carbondale Community High School Giant City Road parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. This permanent move will be the home of the farmers outdoor market until Nov. 2. On Nov. 9 the market will begin its winter season and move inside the west wing of the Carbondale Community High School. The hours of operation during the winter season will be from 9 a.m. to noon. The American Red Cross has begun its annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program and is inviting everyone to send holiday cards to those who serve our country, veterans and their families by Dec. 6. To ensure that cards are delivered in time for the holidays, they must be postmarked no later than Dec. 6. Individuals are asked to refrain from sending letters, money or any other kinds of inserts with the cards. Please also refrain from using glitter.
