The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host a women's overnight tent campout from noon Oct. 24 to 3 p.m. Oct. 25. Transportation will be provided from the center, 2302 County Park Drive in Cape Girardeau, to the Castor River Conservation Area in Bollinger County. Registration is required, and girls ages 12 to 17 are welcome if accompanied by an adult woman. Activities will include building a fire, cooking outdoors, canoing and fishing. Church plans free community party
Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau will host a free community party from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 30 at its parking lot at 100 N. Frederick St. In the event of rain, the party will be held at 55 N. Pacific St. The evening includes Halloween candy trunk-or-treat, food, a bounce house, costume contest, obstacle course and a chance to win a television. A free Medicare counseling session will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Altenburg Senior Center, 200 Church St. in Altenburg, Missouri, and from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 30 at the Jackson Senior Center, 2690 Travelers Way in Jackson. Medicare beneficiaries may change their coverage for 2016 during open enrollment from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. This is the only time most people can change their Part D prescription-drug plans and/or Medicare Advantage plan. The session will be conducted by CLAIM, Missouri's free Medicare counseling program. The Ladies' Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church will hold its annual Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 7 at the church's fellowship hall at 100 N. Frederick St. in Cape Girardeau. Chicken-and-dumplings will be served; the cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 6 years old and younger. Carryouts will be available. An area-wide event, "A Time to Pray," is planned for 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School auditorium. The interdenominational event is free and open to the public; speakers will include Dorothy Wilson, Lucas Presson and Doug Austin of Cape Girardeau; Mike Cowan of Oak Ridge; and Scott Eakers, Father John Harth and Sam Roethemeyer of Jackson.
