The departments of chemistry and biology at Southeast Missouri State University will host the second annual Halloween Science Night from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in various rooms in Magill and Rhodes halls on Southeast's campus. The event will be an opportunity for area children ages 5 to 12 to experience science in action. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Southeast Missouri State University will offer a Ghost Hunting 101 class from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Learn about the types of hauntings, the equipment paranormal investigators use and how to safely conduct investigations. Bring a notebook and flashlight. Students may also bring their own camera or recording equipment Saturday. Katherine Webster, a copy editor at the Southeast Missourian, will lead the classes. Webster is the co-founder and lead investigator of the Paranormal Investigators Alliance and writes "Ghost Written," a blog on www.semissourian.com. Registration is $50. Hospital foundation plans showcase

The Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation will have its 22nd annual Southeast Showcase from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Show Me Center. The theme this year is "Vampires and Vixens." Guests will be able to sample food and beverages from area restaurants and vendors. Live entertainment will start at 8 p.m. Guests can come in Halloween costumes or casual attire, but must be at least 21 to attend. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.
