Iris Society to hold flower sale and auction

The SEMO Iris Society will sponsor an iris sale and auction open to the public at noon today, Aug. 7, at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 684 Jackson Trail in Jackson. Club members will provide a wide variety of iris rhizomes for sale on the "dollar table." These rhizomes include divisions from nationally known companies as well as unique hybrids from local hybridizers. Trees and Health event to be held

Attendees can explore how proper tree care and management encourages good health and longevity for trees and people alike from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Shawnee Park Center, 835 S. West End Blvd. in Cape Girardeau.

Delta Senior Citizens group to meet

The Delta Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Delta Community Building, 211 E. State St. in Delta. The theme for the meeting will be Fun Day with bingo, puzzles, games and fellowship. Musical entertainment will be provided by Bob Schwepker and the Senior Notes. Lunch will be served at noon. Rhodes 101 Stops to hold job fairs

A job fair for Rhodes 101 Stops and the Scott City Imo's Pizza franchise to be located on Nash Road in Scott City will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Rhodes 101 Stops corporate office, 1620 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The new site will include a dine-in restaurant, a carryout order fulfillment center and a grab-and-go personal-size pizza kiosk in its adjacent convenience store. The Imo's Pizza franchise is expected to open in late August after remodeling projects are completed. An Imo's Pizza franchise also is opening next to Rhodes' Lake Drive convenience store in Perryville, Missouri. A Perryville job fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Perry Park Center Gymnasium, 800 City Park Lane in Perryville. Interested candidates are encouraged to call (573) 334-7733 and press "0" to preschedule an interview. Walk-ins are welcome, but will be subject to wait behind prescheduled interviews.

Chaffee German Days scheduled

The Chaffee, Missouri, German Days will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, and at noon Saturday, Aug. 13, at 800 S. Main St. in Chaffee. A queen contest will begin at 6 p.m. Friday. Call the Bank of Advance at (573) 887-3551 to register for the contest, or register at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the park. Bingo also will be held Friday night, along with a free dance with music provided by Excalibur Sound System from 8 p.m. to midnight. A washer and cornhole tournament will be held Saturday. The community band will perform Saturday, a greased pole challenge will be available and a talent show will begin at 4:30 p.m. A free dance will be offered with music provided by Renegade Sound System from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Bratwurst, hamburgers and fried chicken will be offered, along with a beer garden.
