Rolling Hills Farm and Equine LLC will host a horseback riding day camp from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the farm, 386 Taiga Lane in Cape Girardeau. The camps will cost $50 per day and participants must be 8 years old or older. Participants will learn about safety, horse grooming, tacking, saddling, riding, feeding, maintenance, health care and competitive riding. Sedgewickville United Methodist Church will hold its annual dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. The all-you-can-eat meal includes kettle-cooked beef, chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, fruit salad, cake and drinks. Music will be provided by the Caney Fork Band. The meal is $9 for children ages 12 and older; $4 for children younger than 12; and free for children younger than 5.
First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau will host a free Back to School Carnival on from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, for families of children entering kindergarten to sixth grade. A fundraiser 5K race for Jordyn Conn, who was diagnosed last year with Alexander disease, a rare genetic mutation that affects the nervous system, will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Jackson City Park, near the baseball fields on North Union Street across from the Dollar General in Jackson. Registration will be from 7 to 8 a.m., and raffle winners will be announced at 8 a.m. the day of the race. The registration fee will be $25 for children and adults older than 11 years old, and free for children 10 years and younger.
