Pet Fest 2016 will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Busch Pet Products, 1720 Kingsway Drive Suite 105 in Cape Girardeau. The event will showcase all the best pet-related businesses Southeast Missouri has to offer. The event will include vendors, raffles, prizes and contests, including Best Costume, Pet/Owner Look-a-Like and Best Trick. Elaine Rohde Photography will be taking Halloween pet portraits and the SEMO Food Bank will be accepting people food donations and monetary donations for Howie's Harvest, Busch Pet Product's pet food bank. Zion Lutheran Church will host a whole hog supper from 3:30 to 7 p.m. today at the church, 176 County Road 226 in Cape Girardeau. Carry-out meals will be available. Liberty Days will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Stars and Stripes Museum, 17377 Stars and Stripes Way in Bloomfield, Missouri. The days will provide a living history military timeline from the 1600s to present. There will be live demonstrations and skirmishes, militaria, a quilt show, talent show, food, games, pageants, a craft show, live entertainment with bluegrass, jazz and gospel music and more. The event will run until 8:30 p.m. Oct. 12; begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 13; from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 14; and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15. The event is sponsored by The Stars and Stripes Museum/Library, Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion.
A free Fall Harvest Cooking Demo will be held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Osage Centre, 625 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The demonstration will be presented by Southeast Missouri State University Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics students and will provide secrets to staying healthy during the fall months.
The Liberty Utilities inaugural Pink Up Golf Scramble will be held Friday, Oct. 14, at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course, 3280 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. Registration will begin at 10:45 a.m. and lunch will be from 11 a.m. to noon. Tee time is at 12:15 p.m. The entry fee for a four-person team will cost $250 and will include 18 holes of golf, green fees, cart rental, lunch, drinks and more. The event also will include hole competition prizes, team flight prizes, door prizes, a $10,000 hole in one contest and more. A chili and potato soup dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1820 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. The dinner will cost $7 for adults and $3 for children 6 and younger. The dinner will be all-you-can-eat, and carry-outs will be available.
A Fall Parish Dinner will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the St. Augustine School Gym, 230 Messmer St. in Kelso, Missouri. The meal will be served buffet style and will include chicken and dumplings, baked ham, dressing and all the trimmings. The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 11 and is free for children 5 and younger. Carryouts will be available.
A benefit run will be held for Brad Sample on Saturday, Oct. 22, starting at Trisha's Bar and Grill, 5455 Highway 25 in Cape Girardeau. The run will continue on to other locations, including Jax Bar and Grill in Delta; Sandy's Toddle Inn in Chaffee, Missouri; Schindler's Tavern in New Hamburg, Missouri; the Hiney Hut in Scott City; Legendz Bar and Grill in Chaffee; and will end back at Trisha's.
