Flu shots available in Scott County

The Scott County Health Department will provide flu shots for high-risk patients from 8-11 a.m. Friday at the Scott County Health Department in Benton, Mo., and at the Chaffee Nutrition Center in Chaffee, Mo. More dates are scheduled for later in the month.

Persons should get a flu shot as soon as possible if they are 65 years or older; will be at least three months pregnant during flue season (November through April); are a child or adult with a health problem such as heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, asthma, or other lung disease; or suffer from a long-term illness that keeps you from fighting infections, such as cancer or HIV/AIDS.

No appointment is necessary. Medicare, Medicaid or a small donation is requested to cover the cost of the shots. For more information call (573) 471-4044 or 545-3583.

American Heart Walk to be held

The Cape Girardeau County American Heart Walk will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 6 in the Jackson City Park. Teams are being formed now. For more information, call Debbie Monroe, regional director of the American Heart Association, at 335-4403.

Nursing league to hold workshop

The Missouri League for Nursing is sponsoring a workshop, "Case Management Principles and the Nursing Contiuum," from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Oct. 4, at St. Francis Medical Center, conference rooms A and B.
