Crown Hospice recently certified eight volunteers to care for patients in Bollinger and Wayne counties. Each volunteer had to complete 16 hours of training to become certified. Training includes topics such as listening, communication skills, hospice philosophy and the grief journey. Volunteers might sit at bedside with a patient when a family member needs to do some shopping or go to a doctor appointment. Crown Hospice has 19 volunteers serving in nine counties.
