Sam Gramling was accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy for the class of 2014. Gramling, who graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School, received nominations to the academy from U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, R-Mo., and Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. Grambling competed with more than 11,624 other high school seniors for admission to the academy, and is one of approximately 1,600 to receive an offer. He will be joining a select group of students that will train to be the future leaders in the Air Force. The value of this appointment, based on the cost per graduate, is estimated to be $415,000. He will graduate with a bachelor of science degree and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
