Jack and Christina Manderville have family in the Midwest, and when they discovered the low cost of real estate five months ago, they moved from California to Southeast Missouri.

Now they are ready to start a small business.

The business at 1325 Old Cape Road is called Divine Mercy and is set to open this week. It will sell Catholic books and gifts.

"I kept hearing from other parishioners that there's nowhere to go to get a rosary here," said Jack Manderville, who, along with his wife, is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.

According to Jack Manderville, some of the items that will be sold include apparel, candles, crosses and Bibles. They are open to other suggestions from the community.

  • A&D Management Co. of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, which owns 12 Pizza Huts in Missouri, is working on bringing restaurants up-to-date in Southeast Missouri, according to market supervisor Joe Ewers.

In Jackson, Pizza Hut is closing May 1 and relocating to 2260 East Jackson Blvd. by May 15. It's going to be an enhanced Wing Street. That means eight flavors of fried wings will be served, Pizza Hut core products, taters, apple pies, specialty salads, Budweiser beer, flat screen TVs and Wi-Fi Internet hook-up will be available, if possible.

For Jackson, it also means full-service with a lunch buffet. The restaurant is going for a family atmosphere. "We cater to what people want," Ewers said. "I think these people will love it."
