The Cape River Heritage Museum board of directors invites everyone to attend the closing of the 2008 Jean Bell Mosley exhibit and to honor Marjorie Thompson, the retiring president and director. Thompson served as a museum volunteer for over 25 years. The event will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the museum.

A treasurer's tag sale begins at 3 p.m.; a demonstration on how to create the Mosley Christmas Village by Lauren Mosley Snider and door prizes will be awarded hourly Saturday. Mosley's readings on CD, books now out of print and "And God Answered, a Memoir," will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the museum.

Marjorie Thompson got involved with the Cape River Heritage Museum in 1981, hosting a wine and cheese party at the historic Thilenius House, Longview, in Cape Girardeau.Thompson has ties the Thilenius House as the great-granddaughter of the late Col. G.C. Thilenius, the original owner of the house. Thompson joined the River Heritage Museum board in 1981 and was elected president in 1999.

Thompson improved the annual membership campaign, revitalized exhibits, oversaw volunteer docents and interns, and expanded the board of directors to represent different disciplines and talents. Thompson assumed the position of museum director and president of the volunteer board in 2000. Expanded duties included offering programs and tours for youth, boat tours and featuring special Saturday programs with guest speakers.

2009 museum memberships will be available at the door. To RSVP or donate an item for the tag sale, call Margaret Ford at 335-6459, Beverly Hahs at 335-8661 or Viney Mosley at 339-1053.

Homemade refreshments, surprises and recognitions will also take place at the event.
