Cape Girardeau Public Library helps 'Twilight' fans prepare for 'New Moon' release

Katelyn Menz, 12, does not normally like to read, but something about the "Twilight" series caught her attention.

"I read it and, I don't know, I just like it a lot," said Menz, of New Hamburg, Mo.

She said a glimpse into the world of vampires and werewolves hooked her.

"It's a different story every time you read it," she said.

The second movie in the vampire saga series opens in theaters Friday. Town Plaza Cinema will have three midnight showings of "New Moon."

The film, based on the book series by Stephenie Meyer, depicts the teenage love between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, who comes from a family of vampires.

Menz said she is anxious to see the new movie "like crazy." She said she prefers the second book over the first and expects the same from the movie. Jacob Black, a werewolf and the focus of the second book and movie, is her favorite character.

Menz and her friends played "Twilight" Scene-It, decorated T-shirts and scavenged through the Cape Girardeau Public Library on Friday evening. During a scavenger hunt, they searched for items like a map of Washington, where the books take place, and the meaning of the name Edward.

Elizabeth Meyer, 11, of Bloomfield, Mo., also participated in the movie-related activities. Meyer has read all four books in the series.

"My cousin told me about it, and she let me borrow all the books, and I really got into it," she said.

Meyer said she enjoys reading and, so far, prefers the book over the movie.

"It describes more, and the movie leaves a lot out," she said.
