Twelve Cape Girardeau Central High School students will transform into "Twelve Angry Jurors" today and Saturday.
The play, which clocks in at a little more than an hour, has one set, no costume changes and only one character, the guard, leaves the scene.
"This show is really different from shows we've done in the past," said Annette Hammond, the student director.
She said the lack of change challenges the actors, who mill around a large table and debate the fate of a man accused of murdering his father.
"If you forget a prop, you forget it," said Hammond, a junior.
"You have to know your lines because if you forget one, it could mess up the flow," said Matt Griffith, an understudy for Juror Number 5.
Hammond said the production is more intense and psychological than past plays the students have done.
Griffith said his character is laid-back, but struggles with the decision of whether to send the defendant to the electric chair.
"He's a little flip-flop through the whole thing," said Griffith, a sophomore. "He doesn't know what to believe."
Despite the conclusion, Hammond said, the production is thought-provoking because of the process the jury goes through to make a decision.
"It still kind of leaves you wondering," she said.
The students will perform at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday in the Central Junior High auditorium. Tickets are general admission and cost $4 for students and $6 for adults.
