Scout Sunday held at First Presbyterian
First Presbyterian Church at Broadway and Lorimier Street will observe Scout Sunday at the 10:45 a.m. service Feb. 3. Troop 4 is one of the oldest scout troops in Cape Girardeau, and First Presbyterian has sponsored it since its beginning. Members of Troop 4 will greet and present the colors as worship begins. Members of Cub Pack 15, newly sponsored by First Presbyterian, will also attend the worship service. The choir will sing special music, and Scoutmaster Will Bahn will sing a solo. Following the worship service there will be an open house in the activities center directly across Broadway from the church. The inside of the building has been recently renovated and is the meeting place for Troop 4 and Pack 15.
Abbey Road Christian to have guest speaker
In observance of Laity Sunday, Joe Sherinski of Jackson will be the guest speaker at the 10 a.m. service at Abbey Road Christian Church on Sunday.
GriefShare group meets Wednesday in Jackson
GriefShare, a Christian-based grief recovery seminar and support group for those who have lost a loved one to death, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the education building of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. St. Padre Pio Franciscan Fraternity invites all interested people to a retreat led by the Rev. St. Joseph school now enrolling for pre-K
St. Joseph School in Scott City is accepting enrollment for its prekindergarten program for the 2008-2009 school year. It is open to children who will be 4 years old by Aug. 1. Before- and after-school care will be available and lunch provided. Rates are comparable to area day cares. Space is limited. To enroll, call 573-564-2600 by Feb. 1.
Gospel singing featured at Shiloh Baptist
The Gloryroad Travelers of Mounds, Ill., and Home Again Gospel Singers of Paducah, Ky., will sing at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, Ill.
Events at First Baptist Church announced
The next sermon in the "Jesus Did What?" series is titled "Jesus Heals a Paralytic," delivered by pastor Mike Shupert at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. There will be a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with Dr. Ron Winstead, finishing Luke chapter 7. Next Sunday, Feb. 3, the church will hold a Souper Bowl gathering at 5 p.m. at the Activities Center. The Super Bowl game will be on large screen TV, and there will be soup, chili, salads and desserts. Bring canned goods to donate to FISH. For more information, call the church at 335-6006.
Hospitality Day held for Church Women United
Church Women United invites women of all faiths to a Hospitality Day from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Baptist Church, 835 Beaudean Lane in Cape Girardeau. Melinda McCulley will present a puppet show, and new officers will be installed. Bring canned soup for a food pantry and finger food for hospitality. Membership dues will be collected.
