MOPS participate in Friends of the Park Day

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), a group from First Presbyterian Church of Cape Girardeau, participated in the Friends of the Park last month. Twenty-six members helped mulch, plant flowers and paint the park benches around the lagoon.

Patriotic prayer service to be held July 4

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, Mo., will hold a patriotic prayer service at 11 a.m. July 4 in the sanctuary. It will consist of Bible readings, hymns, prayers, special music by the Men's Choir and the Perry County Lutheran Chorale and other pertinent readings. Members of the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will present the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Rev. Christopher Cole, who is one of Immanuel's three pastors -- along with the Rev. Thomas Handrick and the Rev. Matthew Marks -- is composing and will lead the prayer service. The public is welcome.

Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road, is offering its vacation Bible school program, "Avalanche Ranch," from 6 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Monday and ending Friday. VBS Summer Round Up with a water slide, sprinklers, wading pools and more will be held 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 24. A lunch of grilled hot dogs and chips will be served. Bring a swimsuit, beach towel, sunscreen and friends. All children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Revival to be held this week in Whitewater

Lake Girardeau Assembly of God, 4581 Route U in Whitewater, will be in revival at 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Dr. Mark Duplantis, from Houma, La., will be the guest speaker. For directions, call 243-3398.

Benton church to hold homecoming June 24

Unity Baptist church of Benton, Mo., will feature nationally known father-and-sons trio "Sons of the Father" of West Frankfort, Ill., at its homecoming at 1:30 p.m. June 24. Worship services are at 8:10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon in the dining hall.

Trinity Lutheran does VBS Indiana Jones-style

Trinity Lutheran Church of Cape Girardeau will offer vacation Bible school called "The Quest for Truth." Children ages 2 to 12 will search for clues in an archaeological dig setting. Sessions will be held 6 to 8:30 p.m. from June 24 through 28 at the church at Themis and Frederick streets. During "Quest For Truth," children will dig into Scripture to investigate the places where Jesus actually walked. They'll uncover Biblical evidence that reveals the truth about Jesus. Children will grow spiritually at this fun-filled program by experiencing Bible stories, crafts, music, games, snacks and other activities. Enrollment forms are available in the church lobby and completed forms may be placed in the treasure box below the VBS display.

Good Shepherd Lutheran begins VBS

Good Shepherd Lutheran chapel, 1904 West Cape Rock, will hold its Vacation Bible School beginning Monday and continuing through Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening. Young people of all ages are invited to attend "Galilee by the Sea" for a time of learning, play and worship in a family group setting. Adults are encouraged to attend with their children and participate in the activities. Those who register their children for Bible School can come by Saturday when the Men's Club will hold a free fish fry at the church beginning at 5:30 p.m.
