Central art students bring home awards

Cape Girardeau Central High School art students received several awards at the 37th annual Regional High School Art Show in Sikeston, Mo. Dale Hoover won second place in sculpture; Ashley Cusick received honorable mention in mixed media; Blake Wilson won third place in drawing; Ally Hebert won second place in drawing; Savannah Moore received honorable mention in painting. Laurel Kasten won first place in sculpture; Lauren Lamb won second place in mixed media; Chelsea Willet received honorable mention in mixed media; and Hollie Tidwell won second place in painting. Art students representing 14 high schools in Southeast Missouri competed.

Junior high cheerleaders earn trophy

Last month, the Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School cheerleaders received the second-place trophy in their division at this year's Jamfest National Competition in Nashville, Tenn. Last year the team finished fourth.

Draughon graduates from basic

Air Force Airman Charles J. Draughon graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Draughon is the son of Rick and Robyn Draughon of Whitewater. He is a 2011 graduate of Delta High School.

Little receives football scholarship

Cape Girardeau Central High School's Meshach Little earned a football scholarship to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. Little is a two-year varsity letterman and was the starting right tackle on the Tiger's offensive line and a regular contributor on the Tiger's defensive line.
