Midori Japanese Cuisine is my favorite place for sushi, hands down. The friendly staff can give you wonderful recommendations that are spot on. The "Midori Roll" was wonderful to eat and to look at topped with masago and tobiko Midori sauce. For first timers I would suggest the "Mummy Roll" with crawfish, spicy crab, shrimp tempura, advacado, and sauces wrapped in string potatoes and deep fried, wonderful! I was impressed with the "Blue Dragon" that actually looked like a dragon slithering on the plate. It was a spectacular place to have really great sushi!

There is a wide, wild world of cuisine out there and in this bowl of brimming flavors and textures sushi stands alone. The complexity of ingredients and the way they combine on the human tongue is unique and not like anything else. Midori Japanese Cuisine excels with fresh ingredients and flavor combinations that will blow your taste buds' mind. Scared of raw fish? Try the "Blue Dragon," a coconut shrimp sushi roll shaped into a sinuous "S," complete with greens for horns and shrimp tails for a nose and tail. It is topped with thinly sliced kiwi that is layered like dragon scales and then drizzled with an oriental chipotle sauce. Delicious.

I've eaten at all the sushi places in Cape Girardeau more often than I should probably admit to. This is a really hard question for me, because I love some of the specialties that are unique to each restaurant. Instead of picking a favorite, all I can do is tell you what I've been craving lately. Watami has what's called the "Golden Lobster Tempura Roll," which is a little hot, a little sweet and crazy good.

Foodie Fans, full disclosure, I had to dial it in this week. Those who know me well are aware that I am not a big fan of sushi. It's not the raw or fish thing, it's just not my jam. Thus, I am calling on a friend and local foodie, Lisa Essmyer, for her top place in town to grab a roll. For Lisa and her friends, Shogun Japanese Restaurant is the top pick. Why? She says it's the fresh ingredients, great selection, quality craftsmanship and service keeps them coming back for roll after roll after roll. Pro tip: Next time you're there try a regional creation like the "St. Louis Roll." Thanks for the tips, Lisa! Happy eating!

Midori Japanese Cuisine in Cape Girardeau does up some sushi. They have a broad selection of rolls, sashimi and specialty items. To boot you can have traditional Japanese items like noodles, katsu, and grilled hibachi items. Good food and a lovely atmosphere.

I have never been to Midori Japanese Cuisine but I have been to Bistro Saffron, Shogun Japanese Restaurant and Watami. From those options my favorite place to get sushi is Shogun Japanese Restaurant. Their food just tastes so fresh and I was never a big fan of sushi until I tried theirs -- a plus in my opinion.

To be completely honest, my sushi knowledge is embarrassingly elementary. Anyone else? No? Anyway, I called in the sushi experts, my high school girlfriends. They speak words like soy paper, unagi, wasabi, maguro in their sleep. Our typical favorite girls night destination is Shogun Japanese Restaurant, but since I had this review they wanted to try something new so we visited Midori Japanese Cuisine. The atmosphere, smells, and vast sushi menu selection was excellent, but we were very disappointed in the service. I have written a previous article about Shogun for best dine-in customer service and again, because of that one element. Shogun now also qualifies as my recommendation for best sushi. A tip for sushi skeptics: look for the word "tempura" -- it means fried in batter! My go-to is the "Tempura Roll" at Shogun -- salmon, avocado, and cream cheese. Crispy, creamy, delicious.
