Crown Valley Winery hosts art fair in August

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Crown Valley Winery in Ste. Genevieve will host its fourth annual Art Fair on Aug. 18 and 19, featuring artists from all over Missouri. Show hours are noon to 7 p.m. each day. Smokey Robinson concert canceled

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Smokey Robinson's Saturday concert at Paducah's Carson Center has been canceled due to "an unforeseen scheduling conflict." There are no plans to reschedule at this time. Ticketholders will receive refunds, with those who purchased via credit card receiving an automatic credit. Those who purchased with cash or check must go to the Carson Center box office for refunds. Broadway Books to host Dave Carter memorial

Broadway Books and Roasting Co. will host a memorial party in honor of folk musician Dave Carter from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11. Carter was a renowned folk musician and one part of the duo Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, who died unexpectedly in 2002. Local musician and Southern Illinois University philosophy professor Randy Auxier will lead a discussion of Carter's songwriting techniques at 7 p.m.

Nominations being sought for Arts Awards

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Arts Council is seeking nominations for its 2008 Missouri Arts Awards. The awards recognize individuals, organizations and communities that have made "significant contributions" in several categories: arts education, arts organization, creative community, individual artist, leadership in the arts and philanthropy. Artists give watercolor, pastel workshops

Artists Nancy Wylie and Terry Ludwig will give two three-day watercolor and pastel workshops in October, sponsored by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. Wylie's workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3 to 5, and Ludwig will teach a workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27 and noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 28. Cost of the workshops is $300 for each with a $100 deposit. Deadline to apply is Sept. 7. For more information call the Arts Council at 334-9233.

Red House seeks crafters, artists

The Red House Interpretive Center is seeking artists and crafters to participate in its first Harvest Moon Historic Arts and Crafts Festival, taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Red House. Deadline for entry is Sept. 15. For more information, call 651-0028.

Garden Gallery seeks entries for exhibition

The Garden Gallery is seeking entrants for its upcoming Fiber Art Exhibition to be displayed in November. Thayer, Mo., quilter Susan Lumsden will serve as exhibition juror. Entries are due by Oct. 6. Awards will be given out in seven categories: best of show, best creative design, best technique/detail, best use of color, best small wall hanging, best medium wall hanging and best large wall hanging. Opening reception set for Watson exhibition

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Paducah's Yeiser Art Center is currently showing an exhibition of work by Jerry Watson -- "Jerry Watson: A Retrospective" -- with an opening reception to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the art center, 200 Broadway. Watson is one of the founding members of the Paducah Art Guild and has been accepted into more than 120 juried regional and national exhibitions since 1968.
