Jeremiah's opens new space for live music

The ownership of Jeremiah's will add another live music venue to downtown Cape Girardeau starting this weekend. Owner Don Ganim has opened the former restaurant space in Jeremiah's as a venue for live music, with plans to host bands on alternating Saturdays. Ramsey Management Group is booking the talent. Mike Renick will be the first to play at the new venue at 9 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call (573) 979-3737.

Red House calls for artists and crafters

The Red House Interpretive Center is seeking artists and crafters to participate in two upcoming festivals: the May Fest Historic Arts and Crafts Festival on May 19 and the Harvest Moon Historic Arts and Crafts Festival on Oct. 20. These are first-time events that will be held at the Red House. The Red House is looking for historical, handmade items for display. For more information, call 651-0028.

KRCU offers Black History Month shows

Southeast Public Radio, 90.9 FM KRCU, will present several programs commemorating Black History Month in February. Programs will air every Sunday at 9 a.m., along with a special edition of "A Musical Meander" with guest James "Kimo" Williams at 8 p.m. Feb. 15. Other programming includes: "Gulf Coast Blues: The Clarence Williams Story" Sunday; "The Life and Times of Zora Neale Hurston" on Feb. 11; "A Musical Meander Presents 'Buffalo Soldiers'" on Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.; "A Tribute to Medgar Evers" on Feb. 18; and "W.C. Poetry competition coming to Cape

Southeast Missouri State University's Academic Hall Auditorium will hold a Poetry Out Loud competition event from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 25. The event is a regional competition in the national Poetry Out Loud contest, in which high school students compete using their poetry recitation skills. Thirteen high schools from around Southeast Missouri will participate, with the winner going on to competition at the state level. The event is being coordinated by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. For more information, call 334-9233.

Logan Museum closed for construction

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- The General John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro, Ill., will be closed for construction of a 1,600-square-foot addition until May 20. On May 20 the museum will hold a grand opening featuring a wine and cheese extravaganza. Museum officials say the new addition will allow the museum to present more and better exhibits. Boys and Girls Club holds fund-raiser

A fund-raiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Girardeau will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Cape Girardeau VFW Post. The benefit is a dance event with silent auction and raffle called "In the Name of Love." Tickets are available at the club office, 232 Broadway, from any club board member and at the door the night of the event. For more information, call 335-7141.

Missouri arts advocates to visit Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri arts advocates will converge on Jefferson City Feb. 7 for the annual Citizens' Day at the Legislature. The day is one for arts advocates and organizations to meet personally with legislators in the capital.
