Two area high school academic teams will advance to state competition in Columbia, Mo., next month.

Students from Cape Girardeau Central High School and Notre Dame Regional High School will participate in the May 8 state tournament, sponsored by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

On April 22, Central students traveled to Pacific, Mo., to compete in their Class 4 sectional. The team, known as Central Intelligence Agency, beat a team from Pacific High School.

Notre Dame students competed in their Class 3 sectional and beat a team from Ste. Genevieve to advance.

As they enter state competition, both teams are the top eight in their class for the state.
