Sure, keeping your party local on New Year's Eve is a bit safer than hitting the road to one of the bigger metropolitan areas in the region, but just in case you're feeling adventurous, here are some things going on within a short drive of Cape Girardeau on New Year's Eve.
Executive Inn Riverfront, Paducah, Ky.
The Executive Inn will put on a big old-time country show starting at 9 p.m. (doors open at 8 p.m.) with the "Raindrops and Boondocks" featuring BJ Thomas and Billy Joe Royal. The pair will play their own music and some duets. Tickets start at $38. For more information visit www.jrsexecutiveinn.com.
Marbles Yoga Studio, St. Louis
One of the quirkier options for New Year's Eve this year, the Marble Yoga Studio will celebrate the new year with 24 Horus of Yoga. Classes at the studio will be taught for 24 hours straight, starting at 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday. One ticket, $20 in advance, will give participants access to the full 24 hours of classes.
For information call the studio at 314-621-4744 or visit www.marblesyoga.com.
Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis
Those who want to go to St. Louis a day early can visit the Contemporary Art Museum, where the last day of a large-scale sculpture exhibit by Maya Lin, creator of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., is Sunday. For more information visit www.contemporarystl.org.
Beale Street, Memphis, Tenn.
Beale Street is always a great place for a party, and you can bet the street will be hopping on New Year's Eve. No big events are planned, according to the Web site www.bealestreet.com, but who needs a big event to visit Beale Street? After all, on Beale it's just about the music and the party.
