The Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site will give kids age 9 to 12 a taste of the Civil War life with its Civil War Boot Camp on Saturday. Two sessions are available, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and both are free.
The program will teach children about the Civil War in Missouri and the life of soldiers. Registration is required in advance.

More than 100 crafters will demonstrate 38 different crafts of the 1860 era -- making things like sorghum molasses, arrowheads and pottery. The action takes place Oct. 13 and 14 during the annual Old Iron Works Days in St. James.
