It's basically my job each and every week to provide you with enough information about local events to disprove the rumor of Cape Girardeau being "boring."

So naysayers, stand corrected, as this weekend is clearly once again "not boring."

Comic Con

The 2018 Cape Comic Con is back and this year you'll get to see legendary professional body builder and star of TV's "The Incredible Hulk" Lou Ferrigno and Reb Brown, star of TV's "Captain America I and II."

Cape Central High School will host the official Cape Comic Con costume contest with proceeds to benefit the Cape Girardeau Public Schools Foundation, according to communications, drama instructor and theater director Belle De La Cruz.

"I want us to be more open to the community and have events and things here besides the events that we do," De La Cruz said.

You have three chances to catch your favorite characters this weekend along with professional comic book artists, publishers and over 100 tables of comics and merchandise for fans of all genres:

- Friday: 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

- Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

- Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CHS's 'Big Man on Campus'

Cape Central High School will present "Big Man on Campus" at 7 tonight and theater director Belle De La Cruz is excited to host the event.

Relay for Life of Cape County

Relay For Life -- the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society -- is Saturday and kicks off at the North Recreation Center on the campus of Southeast at 4 p.m. with a soft opening.

The Campus Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. This event is not a running event; it's a walking event that includes the survivors, caregivers, teams and participants.

The goal is to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers and to raise money to help the American Cancer Society.

Cancer survivors, caregivers and anyone who has been impacted by cancer are invited.

If you would like to form a team and fundraise, check out relayforlife.org/capemo.
