'Punks rock' the River Campus

Everyone remembers high school, but not many remember it like this. Catch "Punk Rock" at the River Campus through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. A tale about raging hormones, minimal adult supervision, preparedness for the future and surviving high school all at the same time. Meet Violin Dragoness Lydia

An electric violin is Lydia Gentry's instrument of choice, and you can see her perform live Friday at 6 p.m. in downtown Cape Girardeau at Cup 'n' Cork. Gentry has released her debut single, "Subdivisions" -- made famous by Rush -- and she is working on her upcoming EP titled "Exit 99." Check out Cup 'n' Cork on Facebook for more event information.

Port Cape to host comedy, blues

No weekend plans are complete without comedy, so make plans to be at Port Cape Girardeau at 7 p.m. Friday for comedian JC Sibala, presented by Riverside Comedy, featuring Jeremy Hellwig and Chad Wallace. More information and tickets can be found at squareup.com/store/caperiversidecomedy.

Spring is in the air

Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center is hosting a free native plant and garden seminar Saturday for gardeners and property owners enthusiastic about landscaping and wildlife habitats. The event is free to attend, and starts at 8 a.m. For all details and to get signed up, visit mdc.mo.gov.

Women-only nature hike

Hey ladies, the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center is organizing a hike just for you. Be ready for the rugged trail Saturday at 9 a.m. You'll get to enjoy views along the Mississippi River bluffs as well as the surrounding forest. Call (573) 290-5218 for registration.

Roots and Blues Festival

There's no such thing as too much blues, so be at Port Cape Girardeau Saturday at 6 p.m. Artists include blues guitarist Brian Curran, the Ivas John Band, St. Louis-based Miss Jubilee & The Humdingers and also local Cape Girardeau bluesman Bruce Zimmerman and his Water Street Band.

In addition to great music, enjoy an all-night appetizer buffet included in the ticket price. For your $15 ticket, call (708) 646-1132 before the night of the show; tickets at the door will be $17.

Let's paint

Saturday and Sunday get ready to paint with the Arts Council and professional artist Michele Wells. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. both days, but participants should arrive 30 minutes early to get set up for the day. Don't forget to bring supplies and $175. Visit capearts.com for all details.

The Scatterguns CD release party

Everybody likes a party and new music, so why not celebrate both at the same time? "The Scatterguns" perform Saturday with "Small Stares" at The Rude Dog Pub in downtown Cape Girardeau. The show kicks off at 9 p.m. Parents, be warned: You're in for a "grand night of revelry," according to the Facebook event.
