According to the judges, the final round was over before it started.
After the first act, Nuttin But Stringz, took the stage, the judges were already declaring the violin duo this season's winners. Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff gave these guys a standing ovation (the only one they gave all night) and fawned all over them.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the violin playing brothers. Their mix of rock, hip hop and classical music is skillfully executed, pleasing to the ear and very entertaining.
But if the judges are right (and sometimes they are), then Neal E. Boyd's out.
After Boyd performed, they basically gave the Sikeston, Mo., tenor a teary goodbye, telling him his presence has made the show better, and good luck from here on out. The sentiments for most of the other contestants were the same, with the notable exception of singer/pianist Eli Mattson.
So will Boyd win? We won't know for another week. But as I've said here before, given his performance specialty (opera) Boyd will have a hard time overcoming acts whose music is more accessible to the masses.
As of this writing, there's still time to vote, which you can do online by clicking here.
But even if Boyd doesn't win, it's been a good experience for him, and making it to the "America's Got Talent" finals when the NBC show was the biggest TV hit of the summer brought a lot of joy to a lot of people in Southeast Missouri, and elsewhere.
Good luck, Neal.
