The Southeast Missouri State University River Campus 2015-2016 touring series will come to a close with the musical comedy "Bullets Over Broadway" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Bedell Performance Hall.
"Bullets over Broadway" is the story of a young playwright who, in desperate need of financial backing for his next show, accepts an offer he can't refuse from a mobster looking to please his showgirl girlfriend, according to a news release from Southeast Missouri State University.
"I saw this story in the original, full-length movie, and was blown away (no pun intended) by the hilarious plot," Bob Cerchio, assistant director of the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, said in the release. "They've really managed to maintain the strong storyline of the movie in this Broadway musical version. Of course, working in the theater, I am really entranced by the backstage insights. We often say you're only seeing 10 percent of a show on the stage, and this musical certainly helps fill in the other 90 percent."
In addition to the show, attendees can enjoy an Art Cuisine dinner in the Kenneth and Jeanine Dobbins River Campus Center before the performance, the release stated. For $21 per person, which includes the meal, tax and gratuity along with preferred parking, patrons will receive a choice of three entrees, including a vegetarian selection. Each meal also will include a salad, dessert, tea and coffee. Beer and wine will be available at an additional charge. Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m.; call (573) 651-2511 to make a reservation.
Theater tickets are $49 or $43, depending on seating, and may be purchased at the River Campus box office, 518 S. Fountain St., weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., by calling (573) 651-2265 or online at RiverCampusEvents.com.
