The five-piece Classic Country Band is exactly what it's name says: country done old-style. The band features beloved steel player Webb Tripp, who bassist Phyllis Brunke says is the star of the show. This country dancing show, at the Jackson American Legion Hall, is an alternative to all the rock shows happening on New Year's Eve.
The Rude Dog Pub has quite the reputation as a great place to let loose, so the place is guaranteed to be hopping on New Year's Eve. This year the pub features good old rock 'n' roll from Large Mouth Expedition.
Drivin' Rain and 8 Years
Drivin' Rain will whip out some material written with its new two-guitar configuration at this New Year's Eve show, said singer Timexx Nasty. And the band will come with new covers made possible by the addition of another guitarist to the lineup. Modern rock band 8 Years will open, fronted by Blackie Starks, formerly of Field of Grey. Venue Schock's Pub has entered a deal with Designated Driver to provide free rides to and from the venue locally.
Good luck getting into this show: at last check it was sold out, but Port Cape Girardeau owner Doc Cain says some vacancies might pop up, so you can still hope. The members of Interstate 55 first started playing together 40 years ago. The Memphis boys now play classic rock covers by The Allman Brothers Band, The Beatles, Chicago, Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, The Police and more.
The guys in Fists of Phoenix make solid alt-rock with a tinge of spaciness. The Fists' venue, the Enchanted Forest, is the site of their New Year's Eve show, creating an alcohol free, smoke free environment for teens (or their worried parents' peace of mind) or for adults who want a good rock show, but don't want the smoky drunks.
Mojo Filter will bring in the New Year with three shows, culminating with a New Year's Eve performance, all at the Cape Gir-ardeau Eagles Club. For more information, check out Mojo Filter on MySpace.
