MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- "Zelda By Herself," an exhibition of Zelda Fitzgerald's art, will be on display at the Mitchell Museum at Cedarhurst beginning Saturday, Sept. 22 and continuing through Nov. 11.
Fitzgerald is best known as the wife of writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. "Zelda Defined," a series of historical programs to be presented at the museum, illuminates the times she lived in and the use of art to heal mental illness.
Zelda Fitzgerald spent many years in and out of mental institutions. She died in a fire in Highland Hospital in Asheville, N.C., in 1948.
At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Fitzgerald's granddaughter, Eleanor Lanahan, will present a slide program and discuss her grandmother's life and art. A public preview and opening will follow from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
