MoZaic Art Studio and Gallery of Inspiration on Saturday are hosting Paint Cape Girardeau, a daylong regional plein-air painting competition. Registration is at 7 a.m. at Bilderbach Art Plaza, 5 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau.
Competitors will paint landscapes within Cape Girardeau city limits, and first through fifth places will be awarded.
The morning session runs from 8 to noon, and the afternoon session is from 1 to 5. A hospitality lunch will be served to participants.
Randy Hayes of the Cadmium River Artists Group said 17 artists competed last year, and he expects that to double this year.
At registration. each artist will have his or her canvas stamped. They then travel to a location to produce their painting and return it to Bilderbach Art Plaza by noon for judging. The process is repeated for the afternoon session.
Each artist selects the best of his two paintings for judging, which will take place between 5 and 6 p.m., when awards will be given. Artists must be present at that time to be eligible for prizes.
Awards will be given in two classes -- expert and beginner/student -- with both receiving prizes for first through fifth place.
Artists who participate in only one session may submit one painting.
Acceptable media are oil paints, acrylics, watercolor, pastel and ink. Maximum size of the work cannot exceed 16 by 20 inches.
The event is presented by Cadmium River Artists Group and sponsored by Plaza Tire.
