Kill Your T.V.'s Guide to Cape Girardeau
Back by unpopular demand, I give you the Kill Your T.V. Guide to Cape Girardeau 2003-2004 for you incoming college freshmen and transfers. Given that I inherited the packrat mentality of my dear mother, I have actually kept last years K.Y.T.V. Guide to C.G., and will use it as a model for 2003-2004. Last years edition looked like this; "I am not from Cape but have lived here just about 4 years. In those 4 years I have learned a lot about C.G. and ways to entertain oneself." This year change 4 years to 5, and that part is taken care of.
There are still only a few main driving arteries in Cape Girardeau. On Broadway, Kingshighway, Route K/William, Sprigg, Themis, Independence, Silver Springs, and Mt. Auburn you will find most of what you need and can get almost anywhere using these streets.
Again this year like a trusty fall sweater, El Torero ranks at the top of the list if you want the best authentic Mexican food, coupled with a great atmosphere. I still highly recommend the chicken quesadillas or dinner combo number one with cheese enchiladas instead of beef. When excellent dine-in or take-out Chinese cuisine is more your taste, hit Chan's Restaurant up on North Kingshighway. Its very good, very clean, and a has a peaceful Zen like thing going for it. Good first date kind of place. Plus Mr. Chan is a very nice man who cooks many of the dishes himself. There is a new edition to the grub section of this year's guide. Do you like mouthwatering barbeque done right? Then Mac's Smokehouse in the middle of apartment city next to the laundromat is the place. Not only is the food great, the people are equally as pleasing.
For football season last year I recommended "the residence of whoever has the biggest screen, the most comfortable seating, or both." This year, Buffalo Wild Wings sits atop the list like the neighborhood fat kid who always won at king of the mountain. They've got more televisions in that place than many electronics stores. Buffalo Wild Wings even has televisions in the bathroom so not even Mother Nature can hinder your enjoyment of the game.
When you need cool stuff like tie-dyed items, Grateful Dead, unique jewelry, incense, and lots of other really cool items see Sean at Hempies. It's a one of a kind place.
No reason to stay at home on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights in Cape Girardeau because this town has plenty of after dark entertainment. Stop by Tee-Jays, say hello to the Mix 96.5 crew and enjoy. Remember that Cape has a bar for everyone no matter your style, including one that has bikini bull-riding, and there is even one across from towers! From a hole in the wall for a hideaway to a voyeurs dream, Cape Girardeau has it.
The destination after a night of bar hopping or dancing is still Taco Bell. Just remember, it's the five packets of hot sauce that make it burn on the way back up. I prefer a glass of water, two acid reducer pills, and four Advil to accompany my late night snack on nights like that.
We are glad to have you in Cape Girardeau and welcome you with open arms. For music it's Mix 96.5 or the Zone at 107.1. For hip entertainment news it's Off Magazine, and for lot's of useless and pointless items remember to Kill Your T.V.
