Jeremy Burford, singer for reggae-funk-ska-rock trio The Level (catch them this weekend at Moxy) gives us his top five songs.
1. The Urge -- Violent Opposition
Memories of some of the wildest shows I've ever been to keep this one in heavy rotation.
2. Toots and the Maytals -- Pressure Drop
If you like songs that make you move -- correction, that INSIST that you move, "Pressure Drop" is right up your alley.
3. Pepper -- Rent
Anyone who loves and misses Sublime needs to get their hands on a Pepper album.
4. 311 -- Hydroponic
Any band that brings as many different flavors to the table as 311 has to make the cut. When I was introduced to them back in the day, "Hydroponic" was the first song that I really fell in love with.
5. Smashing Pumpkins -- Blew Away
Though it features James Iha on lead vocals rather than Billy Corgan, "Blew Away" remains one of my favorite Pumpkins songs. All the elements are there: pretty melodies, touching lyrics, a chilling guitar solo -- all building toward a grand, explosive finish. Classic Pumpkins, regardless of the voice.
