Jonesboro, Illinois, country band the Hollerboys say they’re just trying to keep it real.
They’re about halfway done recording their first album, and shot a music video to go with their single, called “Cow Tipsy.”
“The video follows the song,” guitarist Adam Webb said. “It’s about a guy and a girl going out and having a few drinks and going cow tipping.”
The song, he explained, was inspired by real-world antics.
“It’s the guy showing her how to get down,” he said. “Showing her how they like to party back in the woods and stuff like that.”
The video was filmed last weekend at Blue Creek Production in Patton, Missouri.
“It wasn’t that difficult,” Webb said. “We were more worried about the weather, but we couldn’t have gotten luckier, and Blue Creek made it happen, they know their stuff.”
They even provided the grumpy old man in the video, who is the grandfather of one of Blue Creek’s crew members.
“He’s actually really nice and sweet,” Webb said. “But he just ate it up. It was hilarious.”
Webb said he hopes the video will mark a next step in the band’s progress.
“We’re getting ready to push to really make it happen,” he said. “Early next spring or by the beginning of next year the album should be ready.
“‘Cow Tipsy’ is just going to be our first song with a video, but we’re also getting ready to release a song called ‘Rodeo Queen’ this fall.”
When he’s not fronting the Hollerboys, Webb is a special-education teacher, and he said teaching others isn’t something he plans on giving up.
“My No. 1 goal is to play music for a living,” he said. “And the second goal is to help other people reach their goals.”
Webb said it’s important to him and his bandmates, Larry Webb (bass), Paul Mayberry Jr. (lead guitar) and Seth Hudson (drums), to not forget where they came from.
“That’s one of the big things, too — where I grew up we didn’t have a lot of stuff, so when we get to a point where we’re big, I want to give back and really show my appreciation,” Webb said.
He added, “We try to make our songs about life experiences. That’s why filming was easy, because it was just basically what we do.”
Webb said regardless of what music someone’s interested in, there’s something for everyone in the Hollerboys’ repertoire.
“Even if you aren’t a fan of country music, you’re still a fan of the Hollerboys because they play music to really cater to the audience.”
Those interested can catch the Hollerboys at Rhymer’s in Cape Girardeau on June 25.
