Embrace the sound of a live marimba performance by Southeast Missouri State University faculty member Chris Wilson. The Arts Council also will host "Subliminal: Hidden Message," a national juried exhibition presented by The Bank of Missouri. It will feature a variety of media, including painting, digital art, printmaking and sculpture. Ali Cavanaugh, an internationally represented "modern fresco" artist, served as the exhibit juror. Award winners will be announced at 6 p.m. New works by the Visual Arts Cooperative also will be on display in the Jean Chapman Gallery. Window exhibitors for July are Visual Arts Cooperative artists Brenda Seyer and Susan Corvick.

Crisp Museum

The Crisp Museum will have an opening reception for Cleda Curtis' "From Portraits to Still Life" as part of the museum's inaugural Focus Exhibition recognizing a living artist in Southeast Missouri who has produced a sufficient body of work, has not had a solo museum exhibition and has made contributions of the time and artistic talent to his or her community. The opening reception is from 4 to 8 p.m., with an artist talk at 6 p.m. As part of this exhibition and the Transition Spaces exhibition, five of Cleda's current and former students will have two works in the Transition Spaces and in her exhibition. The students are Zenon Duda, Renee Gordon, Ellen Hahs, Lynn Lancaster and Ann Ritter.

Catapult Creative House

The Gallery: Artist/maker Bret Peters from Dos Vita Designs will exhibit his "Girardot Series," a collection of handmade custom furniture. Each piece is hand-crafted from steel, walnut lumber and leather and based on the idea of building quality furniture that will stand the test of time while showcasing locally sourced, raw materials.

The Shoppe: Visiting vendor Sarira Naturals will do a presentation and demo of their personal-care products and the natural products that go in them. There will be a giveaway of their products at 9 p.m. Free wine will be available throughout the evening.
