Mollie's Cafe

Mollie's Cafe will host celebrated artist Sarah Riley's recent works and many pieces from her years of practice. "Retrospective" includes different mediums of art from the Southeast Missouri State University professor. Reception from 5 to 9 p.m.

Aartful Rose

Works by Craig Thomas will open the new gallery and be on display for October, and Barry Hooper's outdoor sculptures will be on display. The Jerry Ford Band will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for the opening reception, which runs from 5 to 10 p.m.

Edward Bernard

Visit the 1960s with a display of "Op-art," a genre of art that uses optical illusions. Norman Brooks will also be present to explain the technical aspects of his "Angels" series. Reception from 5 to 9 p.m.

River Campus Art Gallery

The art gallery, located in the Seminary Building on the River Campus will open to show the site-specific installation by artist William H. Thielen called "Pink." The exhibit uses the space as part of the design in the artwork.

Crisp Museum, River Campus

"Benjie Heu: Transition Spaces 09.1" is an installation featuring ceramic works at the museum. Also on display are more than 70 works by more than 40 artists, including Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock, on display for "Guild Hall: An Adventure in the Arts."

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri

Works from the Guiyang Stars Children's Art School will be featured during the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's First Friday. The collection includes more than 90 pieces by children taking art in the city of Guiyang in the Guizhou province of China. The Chapman Gallery will feature new works by Artist Co-Op members. The Empty Bowls Silent Auction will be set up to begin taking bids through Oct. 31.

Black Door Gallery

Black Door Gallery is hosting a mother-and-daughter show in an alliance with the Guiyang Stars Children's Art School exhibit at the Arts Council. This display is called "Ice & Snow," the American names for these Chinese women. There will also be art from three of the school children.

WESTRAY/Cat Ranch Art Guild

Herb Wickham of Jackson will be the featured artist with his oil paintings and watercolors of areas in and around Southeast Missouri. The reception, from 6 to 9 p.m., will also feature Cat Ranch Art Guild members. Visitors may also register for a free monthly drawing for a piece of art to be given away by the Guild.
