Unlike a lot of movies recently, the previews on TV and advanced advertisement were not the only good parts about this movie. The soul of this movie, although there was much ado about aliens, fighting, destruction and frightening speculations on director Steven Spielberg's part, is about five little words, "Take care of our children."

Deadbeat dad Tom Cruise turns into a fierce fighting machine for his children. I'm sure we will be seeing a lot more of little Dakota Fanning, as she did a superb job in the role as Cruise's daughter.

Morgan Freeman was also the perfect choice for narrating this film; he sounded like he WAS in outer space.

All in all, it was an entertaining, vividly imaginative movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat and even make you jump once or twice. It makes you wonder if H. G. Wells ever dreamed his book would indeed come to life with such panache. I think Spielberg has another great hit on his hands.

Four stars (out of four)

Sit back in your seat and get ready for the ride -- it's "War of the Worlds"! This Steven Spielberg movie ranks up there with "Jurassic Park." It was like the best roller-coaster ride, giving you thrills from opening credits to closing ones. The special effects are amazing in both visuals and sound.

This is one of Tom Cruise's best performances in a while, and Dakota Fanning shows why she is one the most talented young actors of today.

If you see no other movie this summer, this is the one to see. I know that I will be going back again. One warning: This is absolutely not for young children. It's very graphic, so get a sitter and treat yourself to a night on the town.
