Do you dream? Because if you do, this movie is what nightmares are made from.

It is a prequel to "Silence of the Lambs," featuring Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a genius forensic psychiatrist, who is himself, a psychopath. Edward Norton plays Will Graham, an ex-FBI criminal profiler who goes to Dr. Lecter seeking advice about a case he's working on. The opening scene is riveting when Graham has a light bulb moment and he and his mentor have an eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation.

Had I not been asked to see this movie I probably would not have voluntarily gone. Sadistic, aggressive antisocial violence is not a movie genre I enjoy. This movie depicts the evil I already know exists. Having said that, I found myself emotionally caught in the story. The only thing that would've gotten me out of my seat was if Hannibal Lecter sat down next to me.

Hannibal Lecter is at it again. Well, sort of. This time around it is the mysterious Tooth Fairy (Ralph Fiennes) who is murdering innocent people. It is up to ex-FBI agent Will Graham (Edward Norton) to find this psychotic murderer. Unfortunately, the best way to get inside the killer's mind is with the help of a criminal who is equally demented: Dr. Lecter (Anthony Hopkins).

Armed with clues from Lecter and the help of trained professionals, Graham works toward finding the Tooth Fairy before his own family becomes the target. All the while, the murderer is frantically trying to free himself from the "Red Dragon" painting he believes to be controlling him.

I wouldn't say this movie is scary, but the plot is genius and the movie is suspenseful and thrilling to say the least. It gets an exemplary ranking from me.

Three-and-a-half stars

The movie "Red Dragon" was everything I expected it to be but wasn't quite as vulgar as I had anticipated. The movie takes place before the movie "Silence of the Lambs," which I thought was a little strange. When it all starts, Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) is out in civilization and running around, living what he calls a "normal" life. I thought Edward Norton played a good part, the police officer who brought Hannibal and the Tooth Fairy down.

The movie grabbed my attention and kept it.

This movie is definitely for adults only. It has a very explicit display of guts and gore. It is suspenseful and made me jump a couple of times. And to make things even more tense, the end took a crazy twist too. I liked the movie quite a bit. I wouldn't mind watching it again.
