"Originally a bassist, I led my first band as a 13-year old high school freshman. During sophomore year, my music theory class helped me apply my creative. Having been immersed in music since infancy, I had a strong musical sense and a good ear. As a child, I could sing the harmony part in any song I heard, and figured out any instrument I picked up. Popular music in the early 90's quickly inspired me to take up guitar and fueled my resolve to write original material. In 1995, 1 taught some friends my tunes, and Greenscene was born."
"Greenscene was/is a huge part of who I am. We toured the country, turned a lot of heads, and still exist after almost a decade. EKG actually plays several songs from GS set lists, some dating back to 1996, but I feel I have to continually dig deeper and tap into that raw, pure, personal. EKG is a refreshing, cohesive, but evolving catalogue which includes songs I wrote days ago, months ago, years ago, and even all the way back to when I was barely a teenager."
"Recently, on EKG's first tour, a newspaper in northern Wisconsin town called me the 'Milwaukee Wonderkid.' I thought, 'Nice ... now I can get that mask & cape I've always wanted.' My bass player proceeded to poke fun --proclaiming it on the mic nightly for the rest of the road trip.
A general recipe for my music:
-Marinate somber melodies in jazzy chord structures until saturated with emotion. -Add intensely spiritual lyrics with intelligent & introspective rhymes.
-Quickly blend with organic beats while stirring in gut-wrenching soul. -Season with nostalgic hooks. Bring to boiling point then simmer.
-Serve garnished with spontaneous creativity & uplifting
implications.
"You know the song that goes, 'The only one who could ever reach me, was the son of a preacher man?' Well, the apple didn't fall too far from the tree! I gently gratify those starving for music with 21st century sensibility & aesthetics. Lately, people tell me they're feeling what I'm doing more than ever. It's humbling when see how much I can impact someone just by being myself."
EKG will be at Port Cape on Friday, September 10th at 9pm.
