Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Glen Campbell and Tanya Tucker — country duos are as much a part of the music as pickup trucks and broken hearts.
Friday at the Show Me Center, the tradition continues with Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.
Shelton will run through such hits as "Some Beach," "The More I Drink" and "Home," which was written and first performed by Canadian crooner Michael Buble.
"I put [[OpenSingle]Home'] on my iPod and started listening to it again and loved it," Shelton said in a news release. "Some of the guys on the bus were fans of Michael and they asked to hear it again and again. It got into pretty heavy rotation on our tour bus."
Lambert will pull from her string of hits including "Me and Charlie Talking" and "Gunpowder and Lead," which, reportedly, was written while she was taking a concealed handgun class in her hometown of Lindale, Texas.
The concert will not have a traditional opener-headliner format, but performances that flow into each other.
"For obvious reasons, Miranda and I have wanted to tour together for a while now," Shelton has said. He and Lambert started dating in 2007. "We wanted to do something special that nobody else can pull off. The result is a unique show packed full of music and energy that will leave people wondering, 'What the hell is going to happen next?'"
The tour is in support of Shelton's "Pure BS Deluxe" album and Lambert's "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," which earned the Academy of Country Music's Album of the Year. She wrote eight of the album's 11 tracks.
Shelton and Lambert will each perform individual shows, then play an acoustic set together. The show will be capped-off with both artists and their bands uniting for an energetic finale.
"Pairing up for these shows will not only be fun for us, but I think it's going to be an amazing show for the fans," Lambert said.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Remaining tickets are $29.50 plus fees and available at the Show Me Center ticket office, all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone 651-5000 and online at www.showmecenter.biz.
